The planned two-story facility will serve as a premier forensic center aligned with the department’s mission to advance teaching, training, and discovery in forensic anthropology. It will support the Chico HIL team’s critical work in locating missing persons, identifying remains, contributing to criminal investigations, and providing closure to families. With the capacity to quickly deploy skilled search teams during emergencies and assist state and federal agencies on both recent and cold cases, the facility will enhance operational readiness. Designed to meet the specialized needs of anthropology and archaeology, it will feature classrooms, dry and wet laboratories—including isotope labs—and dedicated freezer storage.
